Mirror Processing
Unprocessed as cut mirrors are only suitable for a frame, as it can have rough, chipped and sharp edges. However like glass our mirrors can also have processing done so there are many more applications other than fitting into a frame. Below explains some of the things we can do when manufacturing mirrors.

Edge Work
Firstly the edges can be Arrissed (removal of the sharp edge off). This is basically done for safety if the edges are exposed, or the mirror is being butted up to something (like a tile). Arrissing can be done on 3mm, 4mm and 6mm thickness mirrors. Next there is polishing, where the edge is taken off and polished up. This is good if you have the edge in full view in the middle of a wall, and it can be done on 4mm or 6mm mirrors. We do two types of polishing, including a round edge polish (with size limitations) and a flat edge polish. Then there is Bevelling where the edge of the glass has a 10mm - 36mm chamfer (25mm maximum on 4mm though). This to enhance the look of a mirror (Please note that the minimum size for bevelling is 125mm x 125mm)
Holes/Cut Outs
Many different size holes can be drilled or cut out in mirrors just like other glass types. Also notches/cut outs can be done but as mirrors cannot be toughened it is best to keep holes to the lowest amount possible, as holes and cut outs do weaken the mirror.

We offer three different types of backing for mirrors which can be applied to the back as detailed below:
Clear Safety Backing - This is a clear film which when applied to the back of a mirror will hold it together safely if broken. This is ideal if fixing a mirror in a critical area (such as low level  or near/on a door). This type of backing is not mirror adhesive compatible, and does not give any protection from silvering deterioration. So only suitable if fixing with screws or clips.
White Safety Backing - This is a white woven safety backing has the best safety rating, and again when applied to the back of a mirror will hold it together if broken. As we cannot toughen mirrors like glass (because the heat would damage the silvering) we always advise this backing instead. Another added benefit of this type is that it is compatible with mirror adhesive.
Foil Backing - This is used to protect the silvering from water and salt deterioration. Always advised on mirrors in moist rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens, it helps protect from premature silvering deterioration. It is mirror adhesive compatible too.
